HBCU Elite 100 x The Athlete’s Foot: National Signing Day
I had the honor of being featured as a standout signee at the HBCU Elite 100 National Signing Day, sponsored by The Athlete’s Foot. The event celebrated the next generation of HBCU basketball athletes, highlighting achievements both on and off the court.
During the event, I represented Morehouse College as a student-athlete majoring in Computer Science, alongside an elite network of players from top HBCU programs. The Athlete’s Foot and HBCU Elite 100 spotlighted my signing through national social media coverage, including professional photography by Cam Kirk and features shared by major outlets.
I worked with P3 (Peak Performance Project), a leading sports science organization specializing in athlete performance and biomechanics. Using advanced motion capture and data-driven analysis, P3 evaluates how athletes move, generate power, and perform at an elite level.
Through my evaluation, I gained insights into my movement efficiency, power output, and athletic archetype, information I continue to use to refine my training and maximize performance on the court.
Archetype Analysis
Josiah Lawson is a Specimen
P3 groups athletes into performance archetypes using advanced machine-learning models that analyze key physical, mechanical, and movement variables. Based on this evaluation, I was classified as a Specimen, an archetype defined by a rare combination of size, power, and movement efficiency.
Athletes in this category demonstrate elite force production in multiple planes, paired with efficient movement mechanics that allow them to fully leverage their athleticism. My height and reach closely align with the profile of a modern NBA wing, complemented by strong vertical explosiveness, above-average lateral movement, and efficient overall mobility.
Vertical Lateral Ability
Upper Tier Lateral movement. Average NBA Vertical Ability.
